Why western platforms had to pull out of PRC (again, not banned) after minority riots, because they couldn't stomach the onerous moderation costs required to operate in PRC that other PRC platforms had to endure. A few years later, radicalization on western platforms compelled the same measures - CCP has consistenly been prescient in domains of mass communication. Fringe voices are loudest in an unrestricted enviroment, it takes a lot of resources to put up walls and prune weeds for popular yet harmless mainstream stuff to stand a chance.
