Wait I thought Turkeys were from near Turkey.
- gwbas1c 4y agoThey're native to Northeastern United States and Southeastern Canada, although there is a peninsula in Mexico that has a different species of turkey. The reason why turkey is traditional at the US Thanksgiving holiday is to honor the first Thanksgiving, celebrated in Plymouth, MA. I live near Plymouth and there are tons of wild turkeys running around here. (Yesterday there were 11 grazing in my back yard.) It's a very beautiful animal, the male makes a display similar to a peacock.
