My Dad has 2 old laptops. Both perfectly serviceable but dog slow due to Windows 10 BS. I've been called to help get them back in a usable performance state on several occasions. A combination of MSs own stuff and third party software bogging things down. Installed Pop_OS 6 months ago and haven't heard from him about those machines since. Linux is the way forward.
- TheFreim 4y agoI got my grandfather a laptop and loaded a Linux distribution on it. With a little bit of planning I was able to create a set of desktop entries to allow him to instantly open the applications he needs, on top of that I created a basic html landing page to take him to news/email/&c. It was a breeze to set up and it has allowed him to actually use his computer. On windows I would have had to constsntly fight against it, with this setup I am in control in a way that let's me craft an experience that fits his needs.
