So much this. I have similar conversations with my family all the time. My mom actually uses a hoke computer for business related stuff more than anybody. At one point a few years back after some Windows update that messed some things up I booted a vanilla linux mint off a USB and had her play around with it. She liked it because it was simple and easy to understand, so she's been with thay for a few years.
- hannofcart 4y agoI've had the exact same experience. Bought a cheap ultrabook (whatever was within my wherewithal back then) and wiped everything. Put Linux mint on it and gave it to my mom. After years of struggling with Windows she got a user interface where she was comfortable in for around 2 years. My brother bought her a "better" laptop with standard issue Windows bloatware. She hated it and kept asking for Linux Mint. She said that the Windows UI was too confusing.
