Disingenuous to just name TikTok for this as if it’s some new extra evil social network. FB/IG/Twitter all do this and have for over a decade.

- tejohnso 4y ago> Disingenuous That's true. I'd call it western hypocrisy. https://strategic-culture.org/news/2016/10/16/western-hypocrisy-why-makes-world-dangerous-place/ https://strategic-culture.org/news/2016/10/16/western-hypocr...
- ceejayoz 4y agoI'd call that "didn't bother to check". Plenty of coverage of this sort of thing at Facebook: https://www.theverge.com/2019/2/25/18229714/cognizant-facebook-content-moderator-interviews-trauma-working-conditions-arizona https://www.theverge.com/2019/2/25/18229714/cognizant-facebo... Facebook had to pay up, too: https://www.theverge.com/2020/5/12/21255870/facebook-content-moderator-settlement-scola-ptsd-mental-health https://www.theverge.com/2020/5/12/21255870/facebook-content...
- ceejayoz 4y agoThere's been this sort of coverage of Facebook's moderation woes, too. Running a story about one murder doesn't mean you don't care about the other murders. It just means the article is about one particular case.
- pluc 4y agoDon't forget PornHub, there have been articles about their content moderation teams facing the same problems obviously exacerbated by the platform. Plus the tragic thing there is if you see something fucked up... it might not even mean you should remove it.
