Interesting hash!
I have a question about the licensing:
If I implement the algorithm from the specification, is my implementation obliged to use the 1BSD license? It is impossible to implement the algorithm without also reading the reference implemmentation.
- kazinator 4y agoSorry about the lack of key details in the spec; I will improve it to avoid referring to the reference implementation. A reimplementation isn't obliged to use the license; it is your original expression and copyright. Any similarities are coincidental due to the convergence of expression caused by implementing the same, very specific procedure.
- kseistrup 4y agoThank you so much. So here's a Python implementation: https://codeberg.org/kas/jphash https://codeberg.org/kas/jphash
- kazinator 4y agoThe specification now details the eight cases for combining the pieces into the output string.
- kseistrup 4y agoPS: It's not a problem per se that one has to look up the words in the reference implementation(s). It must be a PITA to write a specification that enables anyone to write an independent implementation. It would only be a problem if using the MORA from the reference implementation obliged every implementation to use the 1BSD license.
