I’ve averaged about 5 years over three jobs. My current one was going pretty well for a year, but COVID stuff and life craziness made it less enjoyable for the next year after a re-org. I waited another year and tried switching teams at the company and while it started rough I feel like I might find a groove that will get me a couple of years. After that I might go look for something else. Sometimes there is a good year followed by a bad year followed by three good years. If you leave after that first bad year you might just jump to another good year bad year cycle and in the end have less good years if you just stayed five years at each place.
