Great idea in theory. I wish it had more actual content, though. Some of it could also be abstracted a bit. Many troubleshooting and repair steps are common among all ATX motherboards.
On that note, I've been trying to repair an old Dell Optiplex 9020M motherboard for a while but am now stuck. (Been using it as a personal thin client at work). The CPU power supply circuit failed closed and fried my CPU. I replaced the high side FETs and the inductors, and now I no longer have a short, but the thing still won't boot and I get a "could not get VID" LED error code. If anyone has any leads or a schematic please let me know! Or even a good discord channel/forum to post for some help.
- thrtythreeforty 4y agoJust speculating, but: dead EEPROM/SPI flash?
- kayson 4y agoCertainly possible. My leading theories are the VID controller or the system controller (I'm brain-farting on the protocol name). Unfortunately any of those would be extremely difficult to find. I really need to bite the bullet and buy an oscilloscope so I can figure out what's going on.
