China Quietly Abandons Goal of Overtaking U.S. Economy
- ggm 4y agoRealistic goals in a five year plan are an indication of belief they are achievable. Aspirational plans cause stress. In my own field (networking) the inclusion of ipv6 on the state longterm plan created serious drive to deploy at scale. I see no reason to doubt a national strategic goal on chip fab is indicative of real intent.

Sooner or later the trend lines of GDP growth will intersect, and the lower, faster-growing Chinese one will become the one on top. China is not a 'threat' to the US. It doesn't need a war. It will become 'Number One' anyway. It's the US that has to threaten China to prevent that. A war would only slow China down in its growth. It's the US that needs a war to slow the Chinese down. The US will start that war, sooner rather than later. But the US has left its run too late to win.
