Is iTerm2 Still Maintained?
iTerm2 is my main terminal on macOS, but the last release was on Nov. 2020. Do you know if they are still working on it? What other alternatives do you recommend for macOS (except Hyper)?
- josegonzalez 4y agoThe last patch release came out on June 27, 2022. Doesn't seem unmaintained to me. https://iterm2.com/downloads.html https://iterm2.com/downloads.html
- QuarterRoy 4y agoI’ve had a lot of memory leak problems with it recently that I’ve never had before
- sroussey 4y agoYou might try the beta, it’s changelog references fixing memory leaks
- Kukumber 4y agoIt is: https://github.com/gnachman/iTerm2/commits/master https://github.com/gnachman/iTerm2/commits/master
- bsg75 4y agoAlso https://github.com/gnachman/iTerm2/graphs/code-frequency https://github.com/gnachman/iTerm2/graphs/code-frequency Would be nice if GitHub would provide an option to scale those charts so single commits with massive additions and deletions would not overwhelm normal activity.
- frankjr 4y agoThe latest version (v3.4.16) was released 3 months ago. https://gitlab.com/gnachman/iterm2/-/tags/v3.4.16 https://gitlab.com/gnachman/iterm2/-/tags/v3.4.16
- coldtea 4y agoStill maintained? It has the most frequent and solid beta releases (for 3.5) than any other major project I've seen! And those betas are rock solid, been running them for 2+ years now. Latest was a couple of months ago or so.
- tkiolp4 4y agoOh gosh. I took a look at their News page on https://iterm2.com/news.html https://iterm2.com/news.html, and there the latest news is from 2020. Thanks for the info!
- coldtea 4y agoYeah, not sure why they don't advertise the dev releases more. To get a feel of what's in then (in short: tons of stuff, including hardware acceleration with Metal) check here: https://iterm2.com/downloads.html https://iterm2.com/downloads.html under Test Releases, and click "Show Changelog" to see the changelog for the latest 3.5beta7, and "Show Older Versions"to see the changelogs for all 3.5 betas and several 3.4.5 and 3.4.4 betas (all of those released after 2020). I've used the latest beta as it lands every time (you can enable the "dev release train" somewhere), and didn't have any problems!
