I don't necessarily believe in aliens, but the government now has an official office for UFOs with 400 sightings in its database and the military have definitely had confirmed encounters with something.
We can conjecture about this forever - and all it is is conjecture - but really there's only two possibilities: Someone, somewhere has advanced tech that they're keeping secret, or aliens. I think at this point they're both equally possible. A year ago, I wouldn't have considered either as plausible, assuming it was just crazies or misunderstandings.
Until I see proof one way or another, I'm going to lean towards human secrets. It's a big universe and we're just a dot in the middle of nothing. My instinct says that a lab somewhere accidentally discovered some fundamental new science that has been kept under wraps. But my opinion could change now that the sightings have garnered so much attention. If they stop for a while - then it's humans trying to lay low - if, however they continue as before, then I might start to lean the other way.

- Schroedingersat 4y agoMy favourite theory (other than the mundane and vastly more likely stuff) is some lab during WWII produced some extremely high field room temperature superconductor. The US got hold of it afterward and made a bunch of toys, but noone knows how to manifacture more and most of it has been destroyed now.
