This is kind of tangential, but back in the early-mid 2000s I remember there being a little utility that allowed you to download individual files from inside of a zip file over HTTP. I want to say that it was made by 37signals but I might be completely mis-remembering the whole thing. Does anybody know what I’m talking about?
- jlundberg 4y agoNot sure what the name of the tool is, but the phenomenom exist and the ZIP format makes it feasible (especially for store only files). Guesss that’s why a JAR or APK is a ZIP file with another name.
- candiodari 4y agoJust mount it as a user space file system and use standard zip utilities: https://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/impish/man1/httpfs2.1.html https://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/impish/man1/httpfs2.1.h...
