The only thing that has deteriorated is the keyboard quality and upgradability. Everything else has gone skyward over the last ten years. My first laptop could do just over 2 hours when its battery was brand new, and it would be dead in about 18 months. My Macbook Air easily goes over 10 hours (likely more, haven't ever tried it). I can't see any dead pixels, in fact, I can't see any pixels at all, the speaker is better, the camera is better, and so on. Plus it weighs a lot less.
