The US certainly isn't the only civilized country to use penal labor. Regardless, I still wouldn't have a problem with it (done correctly).
The average person is forced to work in one way or the other. Not sure why committing a crime is a get out of work (and into jail) card.

- meheleventyone 4y agoErr... because it incentivises arresting and jailing vulnerable people in order to provide cheap labor. (done correctly) is doing a lot of work.
