The Metaverse Is the Deepest Money Pit
- metadat 4y agoThe most succinct explanation of FB's current struggles I've encountered to date. This really nails the big pit of despair Zuck & co have fallen into with Meta. No wonder he wakes up everyday feeling like he's been punched in the gut. It's unbelievable how the metaverse graphics and avatars look worse than a Wii character and even games from the early 2000s. That Quest Pro: is just, woww. The classic solution in search of a problem. I feel kind of bad for the thousands of people working on this. Early in my career I worked at a game studio and helped create what amounted to be a huge flop. Demoralizing is an understatement. This taught me a valuable lesson, though: Never underestimate the stupidity of a large group, no matter the pedigree. From the beginning, the game wasn't fun but I felt too green and new to speak up and really question what was going on. I remember thinking: "Surely these Stanford and Harvard educated leaders, product managers, and engineers know something I don't." This turned out to be false, they were are bunch of dumb lemmings in this case. Pay attention to, and trust your gut. Especially you, Mark.
