Rent control works fine for its purpose - keeping people in their houses. If landlords are being abusive, we should update regulations to suitably punish them for that abuse. If landlords are keeping rentals empty, we should add an onerous tax on empty housing

  That leads to the US healthcare billing practice of over inflated billing to see how much insurance will pay. If you give people money without fixing prices, the prices will rise based upon how much free money was given.
