Apple hardware design has become incredibly stale and iterative over the last decade. Most of their products are either white injection moulded plastic, or a CNC machined metal enclosure with rounded corners and glass.
I suspect this is due to the ops teams at Apple ruling the roost: they made a huge investment in CNC machines to scale to iPhone/Mac volume and a break from this would be too disruptive.
If you had to design to this constraint, wouldn't it become boring?

There’s a huge focus on environmental friendliness and it’s hard to have better materials that are also environmentally friendly. The plastic stuff is usually a concession for stuff that needs to be lighter.
