- Kon-Peki 4y agoYeah, it's great. School districts need excuses to have a day off here and there. My local district has a half dozen or so early release days and full days off for teacher training or whatever. They really ought to tie it to some event on the calendar that gives them an opportunity to teach a little bit about whatever that event is. PS - I'm still waiting for Chicago Public Schools to reinstate Pulaski Day, even though I don't live there anymore. It's such a random holiday to observe and have a parade, etc. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casimir_Pulaski_Day https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casimir_Pulaski_Day

They ended up with a couple of days which didn't match up. They adjusted the start/stop of the school year and winter break in order to keep the same number of instructional days, 180.
