The Husband Stitch Isn’t Just a Horrifying Childbirth Myth
- drekipus 4y agoIf we're going to say that this is a thing that happens then I'd want to see some statistics, probably segmented by year / cultures. My wife got stitched up after childbirth too tightly due to an inexperienced FEMALE doctor. We were both conscious, both present, my wife was lucid (and exhausted). Now all sex is painful and there hasn't been actual penetration for 7 months since the little one was born. No one from our caucasian circles have even heard about it. > "The fact that there is even a practice called the husband stitch is a perfect example of the intersection of the objectification of women’s bodies and healthcare" There is no practise. The term was made up by a woman in the original "exposé". Is there crooked doctors and dumb husbands? Sure. But it's not some world wide conspiracy against women.
- ZeroGravitas 4y ago> But it's not some world wide conspiracy against women. Your first sentence indicates that you (correctly) think there is a world-wide conspiracy against women, it's just not as prevelant in some locations and recent history. I'm amazed (and strangely optimistic) about the fact that people could assume this is a myth. Optimistic in that it suggests that they've grown up in a better world, just as people would be amazed if you told them when it became legal to marry outside your race, or illegal to be denied bank account based on being a woman, etc. I'd prefer they were both appalled and informed, but if we're only going to get one then appalled is better.
- scarmig 4y ago"husband stitch" ngrams: https://books.google.com/ngrams/graph?content=husband+stitch&year_start=1800&year_end=2019&corpus=26&smoothing=3&direct_url=t1%3B%2Chusband%20stitch%3B%2Cc0#t1%3B%2Chusband%20stitch%3B%2Cc0 https://books.google.com/ngrams/graph?content=husband+stitch... Appears that its use really took off with the story, but was something known and at least sometimes practiced before then.
- SevenNation 4y ago> “I felt betrayed because something unnecessary was done to my body that I didn’t ask for,” Angela said. “It was a harmful decision made without my consent. That’s not what you should get when you are in the hospital to have a baby.” It's also not what you should expect when you're in the hospital as a baby. Yet millions of American men have been circumcised.
- yucky 4y agoFriendly reminder that healthline.com is a blog that's part of a larger content farm SEO company. They publish nonsense like this to get backlinks.
- CincinnatiMan 4y agoCan you expand on this? Are they not a good place to get content from? They seem to show up pretty highly in Google searches these days, so I often find myself on one of their sites.
