College enrollment falls for third straight year
- raydiatian 4y agoSince 1980, college tuition price tag has increased by 169%, while wages have increased only 19% (inflation adjusted). At the same time, the internet contains everything you’ll ever be taught in college, sans labs and professors, and the quality of on-campus education has not improved 8x (price tag/wages gain needed to warrant) over its 1980s predecessor. You don’t learn 8x as much or 8x faster. You might be 8x more distracted, if anything. It makes perfect sense. Also, Freakonomics did a great 4-part series this year (circa spring 2022) on this exact topic, and anybody who cares to take a closer look should check it out for expert opinions from deans and economists.
- hn2017 4y agoJust hope people don't start getting their education from social media...
- JoeAltmaier 4y agoDoes it really? Contain everything taught in college? Some disciplines may have free online textbooks, but surely not all.
- raydiatian 4y agoEverything, most students I knew “bought” their textbooks at thepiratebay. The ones we couldn’t were of course available on Amazon.. without proof of enrollment.
