IPv4 Address Pricing – Prices Stagnate
- anderspitman 4y agoAt this point I suspect SNI routing will de facto replace both IPv4 and IPv6.
- kevincox 4y agoI run a service that sends email. Right now I am relying on domain reputation or leasing IPs from providers with high reputation. It would be nice if I could actually own an IPv4 IP at lower prices. he smallest bundles are ~$10k but that is out of range of my very small business or personal use. Maybe one day.
- anderspitman 4y agoIt might be worth it even purely as an investment. Especially if you're specifically focused on maintaining a good reputation on the IPs, that could increase the value even more over time.
- TechBro8615 4y agoI hope not. I'd prefer an encrypted transport protocol that doesn't leak connection metadata...
- anderspitman 4y agoEncrypted Client Hello? Or are you referring to other metadata?
- Kab1r 4y agoFrom my understanding, the router would need to terminate tls to read the SNI with ECH and at that point you might as well use the Host HTTP header for HTTP.
- anderspitman 4y agoECH is encrypted using a public key obtained through DNS (specifically DNS-over-HTTPS[0]). My assumption is that you would terminate the ECH encryption at the edge, but everything else can be terminated with a separate cert at the origin server. But I would be interested to know what deployment looks like in practice. [0]: https://blog.cloudflare.com/encrypted-client-hello/ https://blog.cloudflare.com/encrypted-client-hello/
