Ask HN: Do Free Account Closures Signal Recession?
I noticed that I have received several emails over the last month about unused free accounts for services such as Heroku, Asana etc shutting down. It may just be a coincidence, but it occurred to me that if a business was looking to cut costs in anticipation of a recession, shutting down dormant free accounts may be an easy way to cut some unnecessary fat if these free accounts required the company to pay for extra servers. Am I seeing something that isn’t there or is this a legitimate soft signal?
