I hope this new boss is called "Decision Matrix" with the motto "Harsh and unrelenting". That'll capture the linear algebra roots and the sterile nature of the thinking. Whilst middle managment is often rightly panned as ineffective, they obviously do bring some sort of value, or at least enable it.
