I empathize with the shitty commutes of kitchen and janitorial staff who aren't paid enough to live closer. My fellow SWEs are paid more than enough to live comfortably in the city. Some of them choose to trade off commute time for other goods; that's up to them. I disagree that coming into the office is such a burden or that Zoom is so benign.
