Firefox 106 brings PDF annotations to browser
- dontbenebby 4y agoYes and bring back the blink tag.
- f_devd 4y agoThis is actually amazing timing, I have an upcoming project which is going to use PDF.js which requires basic annotations, so it would probably be some hacky solution to patch it in with a lot of work. Now it's just plug'n'play.
- oever 4y agoIf you want to keep the annotations outside the PDF, you could take inspiration from https://codeberg.org/vandenoever/pdfannotation https://codeberg.org/vandenoever/pdfannotation
- barbariangrunge 4y agoI wasn’t sure how to do pdf annotations, so that’s pretty handy
- demetrius 4y agoI find that thing misleading: > Second, as malware-laden PDFs are unfortunately still a thing, the less need there is to open a PDF locally, the more it helps your system security. To read PDFs, Firefox downloads them locally, so that is not what differentiates it from other PDF-reading software. Sure, maybe Firefox's viewers is more secure than Adobe's, but in the end both parse PDFs locally.
- stjohnswarts 4y agoIf it makes you feel safer you can turn off javascript in pdfs with this in about:config pdfjs.enableScripting to false
- JaDogg 4y agoSounds like this should be default
- stjohnswarts 4y agoThey use the same javascript engine as my browser so I'm not that worried :) . Chances are low compared to just surfing in general in my estimation. Everything is sandboxed quite well in modern browsers.
- oever 4y agoThe annotations are appended to the original PDF. I wonder if there's a library to collect all annotations and merge them into one file.
- CrimsonRain 4y agoHow does it compare with the one in Edge? Edge's annotation features are really awesome; PDF or websites. I used Edge extensively to annotate ebooks for studies. It was a real life saver.
- hulitu 4y agoRCE at a new level. Just don't open PDFs in the browser.
