Coincidentally, I was trying to convince some people recently that "just for fun" is not the same as "shoddy". For instance, a syllabus can make learning anything more fun, in my opinion (even though coming up with one may require some effort). [1] If you do something "just for fun", it *sounds* like no real effort is put... But doing anything at high performance is more fun that doing it without too much effort. I think there's confusion about this point some times. Corollary: to make anything you are learning more fun... always have a syllabus! (even if you need to create one yourself).
