Given the prevalence of bikes in the Netherlands this doesn’t seem surprising. Usually Elementary schools in US cities are close enough to walk to in many cases. This however doesn’t stop most families from driving their kids to school.
- banannaise 4y ago"Close enough to walk" and "has walking infrastructure" are two very different things. In making schools and other things easier to access by car, we have often made them harder to access on foot, especially for children who are more vulnerable in dangerous situations around traffic.
- hoosieree 4y agoI live in a bike-friendly city (League of American Bicyclists "Gold" level) but all of my cycling routes include roads without bike lanes. I wouldn't ask a kid to do it, at least not until people learn to drive much safer.
