Europe used to buy a lot of natural gas from russia via these pipelines. Now that they're gone, they will have to buy from someone else. The united states has a lot of natural gas to sell them.
edit: nice stealth edit. the original comment was just "what would the motive be?" which imo is a perfectly fine question to ask. the "conspiratorial" line has me wondering though: what would a non conspiratorial theory be?
- matthewdgreen 4y agoOne of the NS2 strings is still operable, and Russia is still offering to sell gas to Germany through it.
- JasonFruit 4y agoThat seems like an odd offer from a nation that allegedly attempted to destroy the pipeline.
- matthewdgreen 4y agoInvading Ukraine and blowing up your most lucrative export relationships also seemed pretty odd to most observers. I don't really know how to judge what's "odd" anymore.
- nathanaldensr 4y agoWhile this is true, it seems to be only incidentally true--i.e., the intent was to blow up all the pipes.
- mantas 4y agoBoth pipelines were not operating for a while. They’d be helpful after the war to get gas as reparations though.
