This is a great power conflict, the third great power conflict in the European space in a little over a century. It’s the end of the existing world order. Our world is not going to be the same as it was before. So, the hyperbole has come from Vladimir Putin, who has said that he’s reversing all of the outcomes territorially from World War I and also, in effect, World War II and the Cold War. He’s not accepting the territorial configuration of Europe as it currently is. Hill makes a compelling argument this is already WW3, started in 2014. There isn't a single point in time, in real time, that it's known "this is a world war". It took time to figure this out in the prior world wars. This is no different. What is different is how unprepared Russia is to fight a war, conventionally anyway, to alter the borders. Once again though, international institutions designed to prevent exactly what's happening, and are woefully archaic. Hence they've been side stepped by this aggressive tyranny. People in the cohort around Putin have pushed the invasion of Ukraine for some considerable period of time, and he has to keep them on his side. They are not satisfied. They want Ukraine dismembered. Russia is a genocidal antagonistic ideological social group. And Putin isn't the worst person in this group. There are more aggressive war mongers in the Kremlin.
