That base absolutely DOES care where you put your privates, and has constantly created policies to reinforce that worldview. Thiel is just another wealthy, useful idiot to that crowd. He's fine now - but when push comes to shove, he isn't like that crowd. He's literally helping bankroll the party that, in its current form, caters to extremely Religious Ethno-Nationalists.
