Now Mark Zuckerberg’s making fun of Apple for iMessage, too
- anm89 4y agoFunny to see these glass house dwellers throwing stones. They are all 100% correct when they trash eachother's platforms. They are all terrible.
- pipeline_peak 4y agoWhatsApp depends on iOS, to me that's Facebook throwing a stone at Apples house without leaving their own.
- olliej 4y agoI'm unsure how "disappearing messages" is a privacy feature? The message had been sent and decrypted, presumably with a "disappear in X minutes" flag so that the UI hides the message, but the message can't be magically removed. The only remaining thing is encrypted backups, but that's a [mis?]feature of iOS backups, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if a device backup includes unencrypted WhatsApp (or Google Chat, Talk, Allo, Messages, ...) messages. If of course you just use messages in iCloud and never back anything up directly ( :D ) that is completely E2E, so it's just everything else that isn't protected. :D
- kevincox 4y agoHaving less records is a privacy feature. Disappearing messages obviously isn't going to stop someone who is malicious from the get-go but if your friend leaves their phone unlocked or turns malicious later not having that history on the device is a big win. I agree that it should be advertised very clearly (maybe "Request that all members of the conversation delete their copies of the messages after this length of time") but even though not enforceable it is a privacy feature.
