What do all these people do besides talking?
- thomassmith65 4y agoWhat does a traffic cop do except gesticulate and blow a little whistle? /s
- Brian_K_White 4y agoWhat does this question do besides talking? If there is someone out there who's entire job is to advocate for applying open source principles in contexts like developing policy and government operations (making software not illegal, getting governments to use open document formats and open software for government operations), and they never wrote a line of code themselves and have no other job than talking with the right people about this stuff, I am glad they are out there doing that for me since I can't and I benefit from it.
- teddyh 4y agoDo you mean that you think that Microsoft will do these things for you?
- Brian_K_White 4y agoI believe the question was about talking, not about MS.
- teddyh 4y agoOK, who at that meeting will advocate for these things?
- Brian_K_White 4y agoAgain, irrelevant. Neither the comment I'm responding to nor my response mentions MS. If you want to talk about MS, go start your own thread about that. Do you not understand that concepts may exist independent of implementation details? You might be entirely correct in being skeptical of MS's motives and actions, but it's as irrelevant as if you said something entirely correct about aquariums.
- teddyh 4y agoThe topic was, I thought, that specific UN meeting. If you want to discuss the utility of talking as a concept, you will find little resistance here, what with this being a discussion forum. MS is relevant when discussing that meeting, since the article is about Microsoft’s presence there (under the nom-de-guèrre of GitHub).
- Jarwain 4y agoThat original comment looks a lot like a sarcastic jibe against the utility of talking as a concept, esp in the context of the UN and political institutions.
