Peter Thiel’s Midterm Bet
- NickC25 4y agoStill don't understand how a guy as accomplished as Thiel doesn't see that the people he's backing have policies designed to hurt people like him. He's gay and a foreigner. "America-First" and "Christian Nationalist" policies don't really help him. He might like the economic policies, but at the end of the day, people he helped put in power will come for him, too. Another thing is that I believe that if you've got multiple Foreign-Investor citizenships (Thiel has in both Malta and New Zealand), you shouldn't be allowed to lobby in the US, much less bankroll entire political campaigns. The conflict of interest is just too blatant. You know what would be even better? If we just taxed this guy out of existence.

- NickC25 4y ago>There is more to life than where you’re from and where you put your privates. I'm well aware. However, Thiel has doubled down on the MAGA movement, and a lot of that movement don't really feel the same way as you or I do. That base absolutely DOES care where you put your privates, and has constantly created policies to reinforce that worldview. Thiel is just another wealthy, useful idiot to that crowd. He's fine now - but when push comes to shove, he isn't like that crowd. He's literally helping bankroll the party that, in its current form, caters to extremely Religious Ethno-Nationalists.
- ZeroGravitas 4y agoIs it just coincidence that he has a 'golden visa' for Malta? > Malta, as a pioneer country in LGBTQ inclusion, is the most LGBT-friendly country in Europe. When you apply for a Malta Golden Visa a marriage or a civil union certificate will suffice. If you and your partner aren’t married, make sure you can prove that you’re in a relationship. Maybe he thinks he can make money in one country and live in another.
