Maybe you think government is here to help rather than to govern minds too! And that what is shown in the news is a good faith attempt to relay reality! If you are managing the world, companies, etc - perception is everything! If you are able to control what people perceive, and they receive everything via a screen, well, who cares about truth? The imagery, the ideas - that needs to convince... and that is pretty much all that you need to manage the masses.
