Yes and no.
When Trump or Biden claim success at the economy doing well. It has little to nothing to do with them. It has everything to do with the collected efforts of everyone in the country. They don't control anything, at best they have the ability to make temporary changes that will always rebalance.
Bob the french fry line manager contributed his efforts toward the economy far more than anything trump or biden did. Generally speaking the actions taken by them will be a net-loss to the economy. So for example the current crisis and collapse, politicians made stupid decisions to lockdown and shut off the economy. Which means less far taxes and then other politicians decided to print money, mostly digitally, to fake the GDP staying strong. In turn causing inflation that was completely out of their control. To get it under control they raised rates so high that will now recripple the economy. 100% of the problems derive from politicians screwing up.
the funny thing about politics and economics, the people who understand economics can NEVER win the election. Better yet, the system is designed around expecting politicians to make stupid decisions. So you can actually bet against the politicians. Which from my experience and knowledge is a 100% win every time.
