Quake GPL Source Release (2012)
- necovek 4y agoYou may want to put 2012 in the title: this is an old release from id Software (though I was convinced it was published even earlier: perhaps this is when it was pushed to github).
- LukeShu 4y agoIndeed, it was originally published December of 1999; it would seem that 2012 is when it was imported in to Git. https://www.shacknews.com/article/3555/quake-source-released https://www.shacknews.com/article/3555/quake-source-released https://techreport.com/news/246/quake-source-code-released/ https://techreport.com/news/246/quake-source-code-released/ -> https://web.archive.org/web/20000229165554/https://www.idsoftware.com/q1source/q1source.txt https://web.archive.org/web/20000229165554/https://www.idsof... https://archive.org/details/Quake_source_code https://archive.org/details/Quake_source_code
- hgs3 4y agoJust as interesting as the Quake engine itself are the Quake Tools [1]. The level editor, QuakeEd, was written in Objective-C for the NeXT operating system (which would become Mac OS X). [1] https://github.com/id-Software/Quake-Tools https://github.com/id-Software/Quake-Tools
- OnlyMortal 4y agoOn a slightly related note… I had one of the Intel reference board Macs during the PPC to Intel transition. I compiled the Q3 sources and was amazed by the fps increase.
