Elon Musk wants to offer Americans an ‘everything app’ like China’s WeChat
- labrador 4y agoI'm not sure why anyone would turn over their online life to such and erratic and unstable person as Elon Musk. Where's the upside?
- superchroma 4y agoI've seen Elon's attitudes to commitment and I have no interest in his vision for an app. The people who own his cars seem to be treated, at best, with what seems like disinterest.
- mrtksn 4y agoNot everything app but services structured logically. If you have great maps, it makes sense to be able to order all kind of related services. In a fully optimised world, i.e. Google Maps should have Uber, Lyft etc. integration and standalone apps for those should't exists. Any kind of food ordering can make sense to be inside the contacts app, for example WhatsApp can show you profiles of the businesses that deliver to your location and their profile can include the menu where you pick your food and order. Any further interaction can be done by messaging and calling. IMHO at some point that kind of integrations will prevail but we will need a legal structure to clearly separate the platforms from the services and make the platforms agnostic like telephone company. Otherwise the app that have the users will become absolute gatekeepers, which would inevitably destroy the market.
