>Section 230 sought to undo a 1995 court decision that threatened to snuff out online conversations
Are we still doing "Said the actress to the bishop"? (my emphasis added) because I laughed a bit at that part. (And yeah, we're still doing phrasing, if you are still reading these.)
The Supreme Court makes a lot of weird decisions... someone once explained to me that presidents get a lot of protection from something called the "Secret Service", so they often take more risks. (I quit drinking hard liquor with strangers. You're forgiven.)
Weirdly, the same laws and norms around the killing of judges exist -- you can get in just as much trouble threatening to, attempting to, or actually taking a shot at a judge.
(In fact, many people don't know that Lee Harvey Oswald considered killing a judge before he settled on good 'ol JFK.)
Anyways, I'm not a lawyer, but personally, speaking as just one guy who shifted my focus to section 231[0] after a layoff in 2020ish, I don't always understand why Supreme Court justices make these decisions.
Even if we add more justices to the court, the meta level issue that they cannot all be protected from violence remains.
I assume it's public knowledge they just... ride around the city on WMATA or whatever sometimes? It's a remarkably entitled and privileged way to live, given that those of us who were born after the fall of the USSR could always choose to pack up and leave, tomorrow, if enough bad decisions were made.
(But just so we're clear, I'm not advocating for the murder of Supreme Court justices -- just expressing sincere concern what might happen if an insurrection style event targeted them instead of Congress as I list of things I've observed, havn.)
