    My empathy for the many victims doesn't change the material facts of my experience. Some guy on an internet forum demanding contrition doesn't create justice.

    Both perspectives could be valid at the same time. I bet even Nazis soldiers "keeping the peace" in countries they occupied were often bored.

One of the things I love about https://old.reddit.com/r/army https://old.reddit.com/r/army is you quickly see that soldiers ‘get it’ - good, bad and ugly - they don’t need civilians sniping at them about moral responsibility.
