It's funny (not haha) the watermen interviewed on national news are speculating on where the crabs might have gone. "Maybe they migrated North?" Is there any consideration to the possibility if not probability that a critical point has been reached, and the crab population has collapsed primarily due to over-harvesting? Far be it from me to stand in the way of watermen entitlement to harvest a hold full of crabs, but maybe they should explore retraining for new careers in software development, as software consumers can be over-harvested with expired licenses every couple of years indefinitely.
