I learned on film, I think in the way that fit looks, film looks that way out of the box, digital, I have to go thru extra steps. As far as the people shooting expired film? that can have a neat unique look all of its own, that said, most old color film if you over expose it (treat an ISO 100 as an ISO 50) you'll get decent results.
