This idea of remaining aristocraties/bourgeoisies isn't solely a Continental Europe thing, all things being considered. The US also has its dynasties in politics, culture/media, and industry -- Clintons, Rockefellers, Kennedys, etc. Wherever you are, wealth and power accrue and are inherited.
