Chinese 'flying car' makes first public flight in Dubai
- senttoschool 4y agoJust call it "Xpeng flying car". We don't call a Dell "American laptop".
- rbanffy 4y ago> We don't call a Dell "American laptop". Most of them isn't even American.
- xbmcuser 4y agoIf it is an unknown US manufacturer international newspapers will write a US manufacturer. If is was a Xiaomi car or Huawei car I think they would have written the company name instead of Chinese flying car.
- rbanffy 4y agoI found it very noisy. I wonder if we can make it less noisy with a different blade design. I have the feeling that counter-rotating propellers also don't help much at that (neither with the noise, nor with CFD models of it). Ducted fans, perhaps?
- beardyw 4y agoSo the hapless folks below you don't hear you decending?
- rbanffy 4y agoDepending on speed, it may be better if they don't hear anything before the vehicle hits the ground.
- schiffern 4y agoThe video didn't load, but I think I found it on Youtube.[1] Ducted fans help a lot, plus adding conventional lifting surfaces for low-noise cruise and better range. Ideally you could combine the VTOL and cruise propellers, to avoid big draggy props sticking out sideways in the airflow ala Wisk/Uber (plus lower part count & weight). Lilium[2] is the first player, but I expect other entrants. As one of the 'hapless folks' who's lived beneath a descent flight path, air vehicles should have the lowest noise footprint possible.
