Personally incredulous such basic (and so far incomplete) analysis is finally getting attention in western wonk circles really highlights deficiency in at least OSINT when it comes to PLA watching. It's been clear for years PLA hasn't pursued massive amphib capabilities because every RMB spent on purpose built sealift is one not spent on deterring USN. Building civilian RO/RO to military standards and employing civilian assets, which at PRC scale is massive, was always part of the plan. It's telling once Shugart started tallying PRC civilian fleet capacities, PRC started cracking down on civilian shipping tracking data. Also consider PRC just passed Germany in car exports and major domestic car manufacturers are/will build their own RO/RO fleet (BYD just ordered 8), and it's safe to assume PRC sealift will expand a lot over coming years. Choice figure:
>in terms of square footage & capacity, they could deliver 7 full Group Armies (likely 300K+ troops) & their equipment in about 10 days.
...
> for perspective this is a rate of delivery—in terms of square footage—that by my calculations could deliver every Brigade Combat Team in the U.S. Army in a little over 5 days.
For reference his previous estimate was 8 days because his scraping didn't account for 1M+ tons of capacity.
