A Case for Nuclear as the Most Efficient Form of Clean Energy
- zeristor 4y agoWhat are the economics of this? Yes electricity is very expensive, but once the war in Ukraine issue concludes, I'd expect gas prices to quickly fall, and the price of electricity to fall with it. Then we are back to wind and solar power producing copious energy at low prices for most of the day. Meaning the more capital intensive forms of electricity generation are going to be harder to pay back. And that is the real question; nuclear isn't going to make much headway if no one can afford it. The UK's contract for difference looks quite interesting. My point being the economics of nuclear power was in doubt, and I'm assuming they'll be in doubt again should we revert to the mainly gas powered power generation.

Yes, from a political energy security perspective, nuclear is an option. Is it best? That depends on batteries. Battery prices are dropping even faster than PV did over its six decade history, and the technology choices are still diversifying. We'll know by 2030.
