There is so much skepticism in the community about this tech. Is it because there is genuinely no compelling use cases or is it because of the current implementation?
- randoglando 4y agoIMO people are thinking on a time scale that is too short. VR is different from crypto, and though it may not succeed, it can solve real problems. One example: Reducing inequality. With the purchase of a headset (~400$), everyone can have a 60" TV, and learn how to play the piano, and have access to 100s of board games (the last one hasn't been implemented yet, but possibly soon). Crypto OTOH provides no real value, and has been out as long, if not longer.
- postexitus 4y agoTilt Five is promising an amazing solution to the board game problem - IMHO, it's better than what Oculus provides. https://www.tiltfive.com/ https://www.tiltfive.com/
- h4n1 4y agoHow do you learn to play the piano without real physical feedback when pressing the keys? The "experiences" you can have through sight and sound alone are quite limited. A glove to emulate something as simple as piano keypresses would be a very complicated device.
- kortilla 4y agoLearning how to play the piano is a joke on VR. 75% of piano playing is the muscle memory that requires real keys. A $50 keyboard from the thrift-shop + youtube will be bounds better for learning piano than VR. +1 to board games though assuming it’s precise enough that you don’t constant bump all of the pieces.
