I remember back in the 2000's I had a Debian box running some stuff next to me by my desk. One day my ears picked up on a regular little click-clack from the drive which on investigation turned out to be my first experience of being SSH brute forced. I guess it was the log entries being written for each attempt. That was early in my Linux days... these days I would just pipe it to /dev/null (joking)
