(Maybe this is just intentional social narrative churn on his part, but...) Musk is an over-passionate, over-personal equivocator in relationship logic. He should not be getting involved unless it is only behind the scenes on the side of the US. He will likely fault-spread around to both sides and then go into a publicity spiral once this spins out of his control.
There's no place for Musk's kind of thinking with Putin's cold logic in the picture. The go-between is a weak person by enforced role, to Putin's mind. This is a firm rule when you prize power so much. The go-between could otherwise take some of your power.
Russia will make sure Musk gets his pie in the face, bc that's the rule for the role as they see it, and also, they prefer negotiation chaos to negotiation stability.
And then Musk is going to freak out.
Musk and Putin should also stay away from each other. In personality dynamics terms, Musk is very similar to Navalny. He only understands power of a completely different type. Musk also generally has way more power-opportunity in the area of precise control enabled by fresh new ideas and tech, with less human focus. This is not the political gunslinger you want unless you are looking for a Thatcher to wrest control.
So...popcorn time at the very least. It probably feels good to ask yourself what the highest level you can operate at is, during such a crisis, but that's also kind of how the Peter principle works...
