China asked Elon Musk not to sell Starlink within the country
- bearmode 4y agoAccording to Musk. Are people still trusting the things he says?
- mintaka5 4y agonow he most definitely will
- clouddrover 4y agoNo. He will do what China tells him to do. Musk likes authoritarian regimes: https://www.cnbc.com/2020/07/31/tesla-ceo-elon-musk-china-rocks-us-full-of-entitlement.html https://www.cnbc.com/2020/07/31/tesla-ceo-elon-musk-china-ro... https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2022/oct/08/elon-musk-taiwan-china-special-administrative-zone-hong-kong https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2022/oct/08/elon-musk...
- mintaka5 4y agofirst, i was being silly, because musk will always troll social media with things that go against the status quo. he says mostly anything to market himself. second, no one does anything for any other foreign entity out of pure will. most of the time there's an interest called money, and whatever or whomever is the highest bidder, anyone will come calling for the cash. musk is no exception. china is in a great position economically, and they are full of cheap labor, cheap resources for chip making, untapped resources in the western region of that country, and all of musk's business ventures greatly depend on that. The us has shit. The us is made up of empty rhetoric, promises, and a lacking brain-trust among its leadership, mostly driven by self-interest. i mean, really why would you do business with the us? they squander millions on destroying foreign nations over dying energy resources. do you think musk looks at that, and says "sure i'll do that!" nope. he has a vision, and even it isn't a promise of better things to come, at least we all know that if china can offer him some compensation in return for doing their bidding, it's going to be for something progressive, pushes the envelope of innovation, and changes the boomer paradigms off the goddam cliff! communism? get the fuck over it already!
- clouddrover 4y agoYour apathy, lack of principle, and submission are boring and unconvincing.
- LinuxBender 4y agoSomething is a little off here. Having experienced trying to deploy services in China I know for a fact they do not "ask" someone to not do something. They dictate what shall and shall not be done. Starlink would very likely have to hand over encryption keys to register in China. I know of only one company that shall not be named that has permission to entirely bypass the CCP's great firewall and that is only because they are more strict than the CCP in the management of their networks. There must be more context that is missing.
