"Across-kingdom partnership between bacteria and fungi can result in the two joining to form a “superorganism”
...
They were stickier, more resistant to antimicrobials, and more difficult to remove from teeth than either the bacteria or the fungi alone
...
What’s more, the assemblages unexpectedly sprout “limbs” that propel them to “walk” and “leap” to quickly spread on the tooth surface, despite each microbe on its own being non-motile"

- pazimzadeh 4y agoThat is really cool. Reminds of this paper: Swimming bacteria promote dispersal of non-motile staphylococcal species https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28398350/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28398350/
- formerkrogemp 4y agoLycan is also an assemblage of fungi and cyanobacteria or algae if I'm not mistaken..

- samplatt 4y agoWerewolves might ALSO be an assemblage of fungi and cyanobacteria or algae. You don't know. I believe canonically, Orcs are, so there's precedence.
- taneq 4y agoAkchyually orks are but orcs are more closely related to swine. (I think, not actually an expert. ;)
- formerkrogemp 4y agoHuh, whoops. Is your username a reference to the cossotat river?
